Learning Checks to Make Every Lesson Count
Learning, not just clicking through
Terrademia was built around a simple idea: sustainability education should help people actually learn, not just click through content to reach a reward. Reading about a topic is a start, but understanding it means being able to recall an idea, apply it to a new situation or make a decision based on what you have learned.
That is why we have made our lessons much more interactive to help people actually learn. These short interactive activities appear after the section that teaches the relevant idea. Instead of waiting until the end of a course to test your knowledge, you get an opportunity to engage with the material as you go through the lessons.
The goal is straightforward: make more of the time you spend learning translate into genuine understanding.

Different ways to check your understanding
A lesson can contain up to three learning checks, each using a different format. Depending on the lesson, you might encounter any of the following:
- Section check: Answer a question about what you just read. There is one correct answer.
- Transfer decision: Apply an idea from the lesson to a new situation.
- Missing link: Connect an earlier idea with what comes next.
- Sort three: Place three items into two groups.
- Which sentence: Select the sentence that best matches the lesson.
- Match three: Match three terms with what they do.
- Step order: Put three steps in the correct order.
- Guess the figure: Answer using a number already presented in the lesson.
After you answer, the check displays feedback explaining the underlying idea. This helps you understand why an answer fits, rather than simply telling you whether you got it right. These activities are practice within the lesson. They do not replace the course exam, which remains separate.

Learning checks are required to finish a lesson
Learning checks are now part of lesson completion. You cannot mark a lesson as complete until you have answered every learning check on that page and its feedback is showing. The existing reading-time or video completion requirement still applies. Completing the checks does not replace that requirement; both are part of finishing the lesson.
This also strengthens platform security and helps prevent farming, where people attempt to collect rewards by completing activities without meaningfully engaging with the learning material. Requiring learners to interact with the content before completing a lesson adds another layer of accountability to the process. The intention is not to make learning unnecessarily difficult. It is to ensure that lesson completion reflects engagement with the material, rather than simply moving through a page.
What gets recorded on the blockchain?
The introduction of learning checks also comes with an adjustment to lesson progress and rewards. Completing a lesson now records that lesson progress on the blockchain as a sustainable action. This will significantly increase the number of transactions done by our platform on the VeChain blockchain.
B3TR rewards continue to follow the existing course completion process:
- Complete the lessons: Finish the required lesson content and learning checks.
- Pass the course exam: Demonstrate your understanding through the separate exam.
- Receive B3TR: Rewards are paid only after you have completed the whole course and passed its exam.
Answering a learning check does not earn B3TR by itself, neither does completing a single lesson. The reward process remains tied to completing the entire course and passing the exam.
Try a learning check
Learning checks will be rolled out gradually across Terrademia's courses, so not every lesson will have them yet.
Open any course on Terrademia and look for “Learning check” within a lesson. When you encounter one, take a moment to answer it and read the feedback. It is a small addition to the learning experience, designed to help turn sustainability knowledge into something you can understand and use.
